Zeiss Conquest Apia 20-50×65 Spotting Scope STRAIGHT

The Zeiss Conquest Apia 20-50×65 Spotting Scope (Straight) is designed to balance optical performance, portability and straightforward handling. Its 65mm objective and 2.5x zoom range provide a versatile combination for scanning a wider area at 20x before increasing magnification to 50x when closer identification or additional detail is required. A compact design helps make the scope practical to carry between observation locations. The straight configuration also uses a minimalist tripod mount, while the supplied removable Arca-Swiss adapter provides a convenient connection when tripod support is required.

20-50x zoom for detection and identification
The 20-50x magnification range is designed around two important stages of observation. At 20x, the wider field of view helps with scanning the surrounding area and locating subjects. Increasing magnification to 50x reveals smaller distinguishing features when identifying birds and other distant subjects.

At 20x magnification, the 65mm objective provides a 3.2mm exit pupil, while at 50x the exit pupil is 1.3mm. ZEISS has selected this 2.5x zoom range to balance magnification, field of view, viewing comfort and the compact dimensions of the scope.

ZEISS HD optical system
The optical system uses 15 carefully matched lens elements, including aspheric lenses and Extra-Low-Dispersion glass. This design helps control chromatic aberration while maintaining high resolution and a compact overall construction.

FieldFlattener Technology is used to maintain sharpness and detail across the field of view rather than concentrating clarity only towards the centre. Phase-corrected, multi-layer coated roof prisms further support image clarity and resolution.

Up to 85% light transmission
The straight Zeiss Conquest Apia is specified with up to 85% light transmission. High-transmission glass works alongside ZEISS T* multi-coating to produce bright images, including when observation continues into more challenging light conditions.

This optical performance is particularly useful when identifying fine detail at distance or observing subjects when available light begins to fall.

Immersive and comfortable viewing
The eyepiece has been developed for comfortable observation across the full zoom range, with a subjective viewing angle of 54° to 71°. The combination of viewing angle, exit pupil and eye relief is designed to reduce the tunnel-like viewing effect and provide a more immersive image.

A comfortable, durable eyecup supports longer observation sessions, while the extendable sunshade can help manage unwanted light around the objective.

Fast and precise focusing
The focus wheel requires approximately 1.2 turns to move from close focus to infinity, combining quick adjustment with the precision needed for fine detail. The zoom wheel moves from minimum to maximum magnification in approximately 0.3 turns.

Both controls are large and raised for easier operation, including when wearing gloves. Positioning the focus wheel ahead of the tripod foot also keeps it readily accessible when the scope is mounted.

Compact straight spotting scope design
The straight model uses a minimalist tripod base to help reduce bulk during transportation and handheld use. When greater stability is needed, the removable Arca-Swiss tripod adapter provides a quick connection to compatible tripod equipment.

Lightweight aluminium and magnesium components are used within the construction, with protective rubber armouring providing additional grip and protection. The scope is designed to withstand demanding outdoor use, with waterproof, fogproof, shock-resistant, temperature-resistant and UV-resistant construction.

ZEISS LotuTec coating
ZEISS LotuTec hydrophobic coating is applied to the lens surfaces to make outdoor maintenance easier. Water beads away from the surface, while dirt and fingerprints are less likely to adhere, helping keep the optics clear during use in changing weather conditions.
