With a 1/4″ female tripod thread on the bottom and a 1/4″ male thread on top, it easily fits between your camera/optic and a tripod. 1/4″ is the traditional (smaller) bolt size for a camera/spotting scope fitting to a tripod (the larger being 3/8″).
You can convert to 3/8″ with a small adapter – see below
